17 Beauty Products I've Loved in 2017

Sunday, January 07, 2018

2017 has been a great year for beauty launches and I have found quite a few products this year that I absolutely adore. It was really hard to narrow my ultimate favourites down to just one post, but I think I’ve done it! I’ve named each section budget beauty, mid-range beauty and of course luxury beauty. Some areas haven’t been covered, e.g bronzer and powders but you’ll see some of my favourites from those areas in a post soon.
Budget Beauty Products
The products in this section are what I would like to call ‘budget’ beauty. Products which you can find in Superdrug or at Boots on the high-street but also products you can find online on sites like BeautyBay.

L'Oreal True Match Concealer in the shade 4.N Beige - £7.99 from Boots
This concealer only launched around the middle of last year and it’s already been a favourite for me. I like to think of this concealer as a budget friendly version of the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer (which is an all time favourite of mine). This concealer I use to cover blemishes and spots as I tend to use the Urban Decay concealer for the under eye area as it highlights my skin better. At only £7.99 this is an absolute steal from Boots/Superdrug.
NYX Pore Filler - £11 from Boots
This product from NYX I feel is seriously underrated. I picked this up in Boots and not regretted it. I like to use this as a primer for around my nose area as that’s where I have the most amounts of pores. This can be worn over or under or without makeup but what’s great is it really makes a difference to reduce the appearance of pores.
Milani Baked Blusher in Luminoso - £10 from Beauty Bay
If you’re looking for the perfect peach toned blusher on a budget, then I’d recommend purchasing this immediately. Luminoso gives such a natural peachy glow to any skin type and in the light when you wear it you can see it gives a slightly pearlescent finish.

Mid Range Beauty Products
The products in this section are what I would like to call ‘mid-range’ beauty. Products which are worth spending those extra pennies on because they're 1. better quality, 2. they'll last longer and 3. they'll make you look and feel fabulous!
Zoeva 129 Luxe Fan Brush - £11 from Beauty Bay
I came across this brush completely by accident, It wasn’t part of a Zoeva set but I needed a good quality fan brush in my life. However, this brush is a completely GAME CHANGER. I use this every time I wear highlighter without fail and it works like a total dream. So if you love highlighter, you NEED this brush in your life.

Beauty Blender - £16 from Cult Beauty
A special mention has to go to the ultimate beauty tool, the Beauty Blender. I absolutely ADORE using this. I’ve been using them for about 2 years now, after changing from using the Real Techniques complexion sponge. If you were looking for a cheaper version of the Beauty Blender, I’d recommend that. However, this helps blend in my makeup flawlessly and I’ll be forever thankful for that. Also, just in case you’re wondering… the Beauty Blender Solid Cleanser is SO worth it when it comes to cleaning your Beauty Blender.

Glossier Boy Brow in Brow - £13 from Glossier
This is hands down the best eyebrow gel I’ve ever tried. I remember watching a video from (The Anna Edit) saying how much she loved this and when Glossier was available to order in the UK I ordered this immediately and not regretted it. If you always end up doing your eyebrows in a rush, or you just want to go for a natural but filled in look, you need to add this to your wish list.

MAC Soft Oche Paint Pot - £13
This is the eye shadow base of dreams and I’m pretty convinced that it lasts forever. I’ve used this 9 times out of 10 every single time I’ve put eye shadow on the past year and it looks like I’ve barely touched it! I absolutely love this and it’s a product I’ll be repurchasing for years and years to come.
Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in the shades Wrap Party Matte and Dirty Matte - £17.50 from Boots
Hands down the Be Legendary matte lipstick range from Smashbox has been my favourite lipstick formula for the past couple of years. I’ve not actually come close to finishing a lipstick until I tried this range. My favourite colours are ‘Wrap Party Matte’ (orange/nude shade as pictured) and ‘Dirty Matte’ which is the ultimate nude shade for me.

It was 2015 when this concealer came into my life and I fell in love, so much so that after over a month of testing this out and LOVING IT that I wrote a whole blog post on how much I loved a the concealer in January 2016 (read it here) that was 2 years ago now and it’s longer than some relationships I’ve had (just kidding!) Since I wrote that post, I’ve gone through 5 of these concealers 5! I just have no words for this concealer over than buy it like right now.

Luxury Beauty Products
and finally... Luxury beauty products! I found that this section was the hardest to narrow down as i have had quite a few 'luxury' beauty product favourites this year. If you're looking to spend a few extra £'s on higher end beauty make sure you make the most of Boots points, discount codes and gift with purchase offers to make your money stretch!

Clarins Beauty Flash Balm - £31 from Boots
This product is an absolute holy grail for me. I couldn’t bear not using every single last drop before it’s empty and I’ve cut the tube in half and I am literally scooping out every single last bit. I have used this as a base before my foundation pretty much everyday for about 9 months and it hydrates my skin so well and leaves it looking radiant but doesn’t have a sticky finish. What’s great as well is that you can use this as a face mask as well, just leave a thin layer of this to sink into your skin for 10-15 minutes. Shout out to my boyfriend for buying me a new one for Christmas as well!
Kiehls Midnight Recovery Concentrate 50ml (Christmas Edition) - £49.50 from Kiehls
If you’re looking for a skincare product which you’ll use for the rest of your life then look no further than Kiehls Midnight Recovery. All you have to do is use a few drops of this every night before bed for younger, more glowing/radiant skin in the morning. This oil is 99.8% natural-derived too. What’s even better is this lasts literally FOREVER as I’ve only just finished my first 50ml bottle.
Clarins Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil - £33 from Boots
Do you have dehydrated skin? Well you need to have this oil from Clarins in your life. After suffering from dehydrated for what feels like forever I was so glad when I found this. This oil is made from 100% pure plant extracts with no preservatives. This oil smells amazing too, I use this every night after removing my makeup and my skin has never looked better.

I’d like to call these products the dream duo. If you follow me on Instagram (@fashiontrain) you’ll have already seen me go on about my love for these two products from Charlotte Tilbury, as I love them SO much.  The contour shade is great for girls or guys who aren’t confident with contouring. It helps you achieve such a natural contoured look and adds great definition to your cheekbones. Next up in the duo is the Hollywood Beauty Light wand and if you love highlighter, you’ll adore this. It’s absolutely amazing and if you want to achieve a natural glowy look, this will be your new best mate.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock since June, you will have heard of the Naked Heat Palette from Urban Decay. I absolutely love this palette, so much so I grabbed this on a pre-order before it’s release date. You may have read my blog post about the palette here. As you’ll be able to tell from the photo, I’ve used this palette A LOT and it’s hands down my favourite palette I’ve tried this year.

Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara - £22 from John Lewis
I was lucky enough to be gifted this by Influenster (if you don’t know what it is sign up ASAP!) and I absolutely love this mascara. I’ve used this everyday since receiving it in October and I’ve never had so many compliments on my lashes. This mascara lengthens, thickens and improves the appearance of my lashes and I’m going to be repurchasing this once mine has run out!
As you can see, I love this concealer. This post seems to be a bit of a concealer affair as it’s the third concealer I’ve written about in this post. But concealers all do different things. The L’Oreal concealer is great if you’re on a tight budget, the Urban Decay naked skin concealer is a great all rounder and this concealer from NARS is amazing if you have specific areas, which you want to target. I love using this for carving out my eyebrows but also for the unwanted spots when they appear!
Smashbox Photo Finish Primerizer - £30 from Boots
What drew me to this product from Smashbox was it was a primer and a moisturiser in one. It delivers 24-hour hydration and the text of it is a dream. As much as I love my beauty flash balm from Clarins it’s good to have two favourites sometimes right?!  This is great on days when my skin is still feeling dry and just needs that extra bit of moisture. If you’re a lazy girl sometimes (like me) and love a 2-in-1 product then I’d get yourself to Boots ASAP.

What products have you loved this past year? Let me know in the comments!

I feel like a fraud by admitting that I don't own a fan brush. I can never get my highlight right either so I may have to invest!

I've only tried the L'Oreal concealer and the Urban Decay palette and I love them both! I really want to try some products from Milani. I've been loving a face primer from The Ordinary and I'll always use L'Oreal mascaras! x
