Lifestyle: 5 Ways You Can Improve Your Blogging Game

Monday, October 10, 2016

Blogging has become a difficult industry to crack into hasn’t it? Despite having my blog for over 7 years I still feel like I have a lot to learn sometimes and some of my favourite posts to read are tips about blogging from other bloggers. Blogging is an industry where we’re all very much self-taught and there’s no secret into becoming a ‘successful blogger’. These may not be the best tips in the world, but hopefully they’ll inspire you when you’re creating content for your own blog.

1.     Invest in Blogging Photo Props
You don’t always have to spend loads when it comes to blogging and sometimes the simple things for me have made the best blogging props. I’d recommend looking in H&M Home, Matalan, Marks and Spencer and online on sites like EBay, Amazon and Etsy.  One of the best props I’ve bought for my blogging photos has been marble contact paper (buy it here) and I use this for pretty much all my blogging backgrounds. I’d also recommend using books, magazines and wallpaper samples as backgrounds for your blog photos.
2.     Learn how to schedule tweets
Now I’m working full time I have less time to blog and so I tend to work on my blog the most at the weekend. So during the week I like to set a certain amount tweets which are scheduled, especially in the evenings when life just gets in the way and I don’t have the time to sit on Twitter and social media and for this I like to use Buffer. I pay for the service but it also lets you schedule up to 10 tweets for free which I did use for a couple of years.

3.     Separate your content
This is something I only learnt recently (and I’m still implementing it) which is to separate your social media accounts. I had a think about the accounts I like to follow when it comes to bloggers, a lot of bloggers I tend to follow on one or two platforms but not on everything. Some bloggers have great Instagram accounts, while others are hilarious on twitter and Snapchat. I’ve realised that with Instagram it’s all about generating that perfect feed of images but on Twitter I can be chatty and only a certain amount of things I post on Instagram will also go down well on Twitter.

4.     Create a schedule
If you’re like me and you have a full time job, running a blog can be difficult as well at times! I absolutely love blogging and with working now It’s inspired me to be more organised with my blog. I have a system now for tracking missing payments, which I need to email back and email, also notes for blog post ideas and a weekly schedule of the things I’d like to post.

5.     Don’t be afraid to share old content
How much time does it take you to create a blog post? 3 hours? 4 hours? If you think about the process it takes you from getting from start to finish why is it that we never re-share the content? If you wrote a post, which went down really well, why not reshare it? I think it’s great to carry on promoting older content, especially if it’s still really relevant.

What do you think of these tips? Have you got any tips about improving your blog?

Sharing old content is definitely something I might consider doing. It's interesting to see which things are still relevant 6-12 months down the line!
