Beauty: So You Want A New Highlighter? The Highlighter Guide

Monday, May 02, 2016

So you want a new highlighter? Highlighter are EVERYWHERE right now in Boots and Superdrug (and online) and I've managed to build up a bit of a stash. I thought I'd gather all my highlighters together and write a nice long highlighter guide for you all, especially if you're struggling to figure out what highlighter to buy.

TheBalm Mary Lou Manizer Review

TheBalm Mary Lou Manizer Review
TheBalm Mary Lou Manizer - Feel Unique

This highlighter is just THE BOMB.COM likely seriously amazing. I didn't think It was possible to love a make-up product so much (you can see because I've hit pan) and if you're looking for a creamy highlighter this is the one for you. I apply this using a setting brush by Real Techniques or a fan brush by Spectrum. I wear this highlighter most days and it's perfect for when you're going on a night out. If I was to give this a rating out of 5, It would get 5.

Urban Decay Naked Flushed Palette in Streaked Review

Urban Decay Naked Flushed Palette in Streak - Feel Unique

This is probably my least favourite highlighter of the bunch and that's because I don't think it works best to my skin tone. It's not as pigmented and easy to apply as theBalm Mary Lou Manizer which doesn't make me reach for this palette. I think this palette would work best on pale skin tones so this highlighter only gets a 2/5 from me!
Rimmel Kate Moss Sculpting Kit Review

Rimmel Kate Moss Sculpting Kit Review
Rimmel London Sculpting Palette by Kate in #003 - Boots
This is the most affordable highlighter of the bunch as it's only £6.99. It comes with a contour and a blusher shade which means you're getting even more value for money (yay!) and I'm obsessed with it. This highlighter is quite powdery but it's still pigmented which I like and it's perfect to wear during the day as an alternative to Mary Lou Manizer by TheBalm. Surprisingly (even though it's the cheapest option) this gets a 4/5 from me as I constantly reach for this.

This is possibly the prettiest looking highlighter in my collection and the most recent edition. This highlighter is great for a day look as you have to apply this quite a few times and layer it. I like using a fan brush to apply this for a subtle look. I really like this and this highlighter gets a 3/5 from me!
Sleek Precious Metals Palette Review

Sleek Precious Metals Palette Review
Sleek Precious Metals Palette - Boots
Sleek are known for there amazing highlighters and this palette is part of 3 highlight palettes they have (you can check out the rest here). I really like this palette it's great for if you want to create a day-time or a night-time look. I really like the range of colours in this palette. My most used colour is the bottom left colour as it works so well with my skin tone. The only thing I don't like about this palette is that it doesn't last too long (well it doesn't last all day) on your face so you'd have to reapply it. This palette gets a 3/5 from me!
Are you obsessed with highlighters? Have you tried any of these highlighters?

Your post has really made me miss my Mary Lou Manizer, I smashed it sometime last year and never replaced it, definitely adding it to my birthday wish list.

Ooooh that Topshop highlighter looks like an absolute dream! I'm an absolute highlighter fiend, I love Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone right now!

Highlight is one of my favourite parts of doing my makeup and so this blog post just called out to me! It's a shame that you didn't like the Urban Decay one as their single highlight shades are incredible! Need to buy all the others though - especially The Balm Mary Lou Manizer and the new Topshop one! :)
