Travel: 3 Days in Cologne, Germany

Wednesday, April 06, 2016

If there's one thing I really enjoy it's travelling. Since summer 2014 I've been to New Zealand (you can check out posts here and here), I've spent some time in Australia and visited the gorgeous Kim (you can check out her blog here) and my posts from my trip here and here. I've been away with my boyfriend to Dublin, Crete, Amsterdam and now my boyfriend (being the good egg he is) surprised me with a trip to Germany.

I've been so stressed lately with the final few weeks of my final year of university (and still am) and this trip genuinely couldn't have come at a better time as sometimes to really relax you just need to take some time out for a bit and go somewhere completely new.
On Easter Sunday we made the trip over to Cologne and it couldn't have been a sunnier day. Once we arrived in Cologne we went to the Cathedral and it was beautiful. I have genuinely never seen a Cathedral so tall and inside the stained glass windows were amazing.

After heading back to the hotel (and napping) we headed out for the evening and we ended up in a quirky pub but there was a lot of puppet around (which were a bit odd!) the restaurant had such lovely wine but the food was slightly questionable. I've been living in this striped jumper at the moment and it goes so well with black skinny jeans for a comfortable but stylish look.
We finished the evening with more drinks (well cocktails) for a place nearby called Kitty Chai. I'd highly recommend their cocktails as they were really yummy.

The next day we woke up and went straight to the chocolate museum as it wasn't set to be a great day weather wise. It was so much fun and we tried some melted Lindt and it was so nice. I'd highly recommend doing this if you're ever in Cologne or passing through it.

While we were walking through the city (once the weather had cleared up) we came across a love lock bridge and I really wanted to add a lock to the bridge but there was nowhere we came across to pick up a lock! There was so many love locks on the bridge and it looked so nice walking along it.

After the chocolate museum we went up to Koln triangle and the views were amazing over Cologne (as you can see) and loved it. It was only about 3 euros to get up to the top so it's well worth checking out.

Here we just some of the amazing views we saw and at this point the weather had cleared up a lot as it had been raining all day. We went out for dinner and had drinks again which was so nice and our third day in Cologne was spent wandering around the shops (as the first two days we were there they were both bank holidays!) and it rained all day. We found the most amazing restaurant for dinner called Burgerlich which I would recommend going to. Who doesn't love cocktails and burgers?
We finished our trip with a walk around the Rhine and it was so nice to see Cologne lit up at night.
If you're looking for a city break which doesn't break the bank I'd highly recommend heading over to Cologne. I think our flights were about £60 return (total win) and accommodation and food were super reasonable too. I loved my 3 days there and can't wait to head back to Germany and see more of it's famous cities!
Have you ever been to Cologne? Have you been to Germany? Have you got any city break destinations to recommend?
