Travel: A Snippet of Santorini

Sunglasses - £10 from ASOS

One thing I love doing is travelling the world, it’s something I don’t get to do enough (the joys of full time work) but it’s something would love to do more of. Me and my boyfriend didn’t get to take a holiday this summer, so we opted for October instead and we ended up going to Santorini!

Originally we had both booked time off work and had flights and Air BNB accommodation booked to go to Lisbon but due to the Monarch collapse we (luckily) got a promised refund and rebooked a holiday within 48 hours to Santorini. We spent hours searching online for somewhere just as warm as Lisbon to go in October and we were definitely not disappointed with going to Greece for a third year in a row. Previously we’ve been to Crete and Rhodes so we thought why not add another greek island to the list?

Firstly, let’s talk about the hotel. I think my other half did a VERY good job in picking such a gorgeous hotel at the last minute and we can’t thank the staff at Meltemi Village enough for their hospitality and making our stay so pleasant. We opted for a room with a Jacuzzi but it was a cold Jacuzzi so we didn’t spend a lot of time in it apart from dipping our feet in on a slightly warmer day. However, I can imagine in the height of summer that the Jacuzzi is an absolute MUST.

(Jacuzzi and Private Terrace... it was a dream come true!)
One of the first days we were in Santorini we went on a boat tour called Sunset Oia, which I would highly recommend. I was speaking to Charlotte which I’m sure some of you may know from her Instagram here and turns out she went on the same tour just on a different boat on the same day!

We went on a 5 hour tour and it was so worth it, I think what was a benefit for us was that we were on the tour in October so it wasn’t as busy as it was out of season, so instead of about 30 people on the boat there was about 15. We saw some of the key areas of Santorini, including the red beach, white sandy beach and the hot springs and we even went snorkelling! (Which I have never done before!)

On another day, we went to the black sandy beach, which was a short walk away from our hotel, and it was beautiful. It was about 23 degrees too so it was a chilled beach day but also warm at the same time, not bad for October!

On a few other days we spent a lot of time walking through the key towns in Santorini which was Oia and Fira and we even attempted to walk from Fira to Oia but we walked about 5km and decided to turn back!

In the evenings we took the car (which we hired) to Oia as we loved seeing the sunset and also we had a couple of lovely dinners in the town even though they were a lot more expensive than in the area which we were staying.

Have you ever been to Santorini? Where would you recommend travelling to?

If you fancy seeing more photos on trip, I added photos to my Instagram and Twitter account!
