Lifestyle: What To Do With Your Life When You've Just Finished University

Tuesday, June 21, 2016

I’d like to be able to say that this post will sort out all your problems but it probably won’t. I’m going to aim to inspire you all with my tips as since I have just finished university myself, I’m in the same boat as you. Most mornings I’ll wake up and think WHAT AM I DOING WITH MY LIFE? But deep down I know everything will fall into place, in time. Since finishing University 3 weeks ago, here are my tips on things you can do to help sort your life out...

1. Book a holiday

If you need something to look forward to, take your mind off your problems the only solution is BOOK A HOLIDAY. One of the first things my boyfriend and me did when I was about to finish university was book a break away, it was so nice to really relax and chill out (and get a tan!)

2. Re-do your CV

Luckily for me, one of my final modules at university was to create a portfolio and this has really helped me when applying for jobs. If you’re looking for a wise way to spend your time, make sure your CV is completely up to do and you change your education to say ‘graduate’ (winning!)

3. Apply for jobs

I think I began applying for jobs a couple of weeks before finishing university and I’ve been applying for jobs ever since. I’ve had a few interviews, second interviews etc. but applying for a job is a LONG process and can take weeks. The sooner you get your head straight, your CV complete apply for jobs! What have you got to lose?

4. Spring clean your life

This one I’ve not really cracked myself but I’m on my way to (I promise mum!) since moving back home my personal belongings seem to have doubled and I need to have a MASSIVE sort out of my things. It’ll be time consuming but you’ll feel so much better for having a spring clean afterwards.

5. Catch up with friends and enjoy relaxing

My boyfriend always tells me that right now is probably the only time I’ll live rent free, be looking for a job and for it to be okay to be in this position. He wishes himself that he took more time off before finding a job but I’m one of those people who feels better when they’re working. Right now though, I am enjoying spending time with my boyfriend and my family and socialising with
friends and of course working on my blog!

So there we have it, here are my tips for what to do with your life if you’re like me and you’ve just finished your degree.

What have you been up to since you finished university?

I have just finished university too (although I still have a diss to write and hand in in September) and I'm getting really worried about not getting a job. I've booked a holiday, and my CV is ready to go, so now it's time to get the application process rolling! Loved this post - makes me feel a little better that others are going through the same thing! Good luck with your job search hun xx

I love this post! I'm sure life away from Uni, away from all your friends, might seem a little daunting. Happy to hear you're keeping ahead of yourself :)

Such a good blog post - I left uni four years ago *gulp* and I was working full time towards the back end so I haven't ever really had a "break" - No wonder I love my holidays now!!

I agree with everything here - I finished uni last year and have only just started my career. It was important for me to have some downtime so I got a part time job in a shop, which was great for 6 months but then spurred me on to pursue my passion for digital marketing! The most important thing is doing what is right for you, not doing something (like getting a full time job/going travelling) just because everyone else is. Congrats and best of luck! Molly x
